ECREA-IIC conference 2013 in Barcelona!

Extended deadline for submissions: 27 July

The deadline for submissions has been extended. Paper proposals can be submitted by e-mail to ecreaiicsection@gmail.com until 27 July 2015. Paper proposals should consist of two MS Word documents: (1) a title page stating the paper title, name of the author(s), short bio and contact address, and (2) a blind extended abstract of maximum 500 words length, written in English or Spanish.

ECREA IIC 2015: accomodation and travel information

As we are still welcoming submissions for our bi-annual conference in November 2015 (deadline 8 July 2015), we have gathered some useful information about accomodation and practicalities.

Accomodation

Barcelona is a very popular tourist destination and it hosts a large number of hotels from all different price ranges. The local conference committee has selected a list of hotels that are close by the conference venue and/or offer special discount rates for conference participants. Travel information

The conference will be hosted by the Faculty of Communication Studies of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). The UAB Campus is located in Bellaterra (around 35 minutes from Barcelona). The address of the conference venue is Faculty of Communication Studies – Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, UAB Campus – Building I, 08193 Bellaterra (Cerdanyola del Vallès), Barcelona – Spain.

How to get there?

– From the airport to Barcelona: there are different options of transport from the Airport El Prat –Barcelona to the city (http://www.aena-aeropuertos.es/csee/Satellite/Aeropuerto-Barcelona/en/Page/1237554338469)

– From Barcelona to the UAB Campus: Take the public train (Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat – FGC), lines S2 or S55, to the station “Universitat Autònoma” (http://www.fgc.es/eng/barcelona-valles.asp). Or take a cab from Barcelona to the campus, with a cost around 35 EURO. If you are staying at the Hotel SERHS Campus (www.serhscampushotel.com), this hotel is a 10 minute walk from the conference venue. A taxi from the Airport directly to this Hotel in the UAB campus could cost around 50 EURO.

International Conference on Communication, Development and Human Rights: social change and media flows

Bellaterra (Barcelona), November 19-20, 2015

The International and Intercultural Communication Section of ECREA presents its biannual international Conference on Communication, Development and Human Rights: social change and media flows. The two-days conference will discuss the role of media in international (news) media flows, intercultural communication and communication for development and social change. Therefore, the section invites contributions from young and established scholars who are interested in (but not limited to) the following broad areas of enquiry that are related to the main conference theme:

– Global Communication: media flows and contra-flows

– Communication, human development and social change

– Global information and communication rights

– New media and social movements across borders

– Media for democracy and its interaction with international regulation and policy

– Intercultural communication, diaspora, migrations and community media

– Global journalism, foreign news reporting and alternative (news) media

Paper proposals should consist of two MS Word documents: (1) a title page stating the paper title, name of the author(s), short bio and contact address, and (2) a blind extended abstract of maximum 500 words length, written in English or Spanish. Paper proposals can be submitted by e-mail to ecreaiicsection@gmail.com until 8 July 2015. Both ECREA members and non-members can submit extended abstracts to the conference. All papers proposals submitted will be subject to peer-review.

Deadline for registration: 28 October 2013

For organizational and logistical reasons, the ECREA IIC section will be closing registration on next Monday 28 October (14h GMT). If you plan to attend our upcoming conference at Barcelona (6-8 November) and have not yet registered and paid the conference fee, please do so before next Monday. Later submissions and registrations will not be accepted as the final conference programme will be based on the number of registered participants on 28/10. Thank you for your kind cooperation!

ECREA-IIC: Practical information

ECREA – INTERCULTURAL AND INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATION SECTION

The International and Intercultural Communication Section of ECREA presents its international Conference on Communication, Development and Human Rights: social change and media flows. The three-days conference will discuss the role of media in international (news) media flows, intercultural communication and communication for development and social change. With only two months separating us from what looks like to be a very interesting conference with international participants, please find below some useful information.

Programme

The final programma will be posted online in due time. The conference starts on 6 November with two full days of paper sessions. On Friday 8 November, there will be PhD-students’ sessions and workshops in the morning. All participants are invited to join these sessions.

Registration and conference fee

Participants are requested to use the registration form (IIC Registration form_ECREA 2013) and send it to ecreaiicsection@gmail.com. Please pay the conference fee of 50 EURO via bank transfer at least two weeks in advance of the conference. Participants requiring an official letter of invitation to obtain their visa, please contact the section’s chair Teresa Velazquez (Teresa.Velazquez@uab.es) with all necessary information (e.g. passport number, full names, country of residence, …).

Full paper

Full papers are to be sent to ecreaiicsection@gmail.com before 1 October 2013 with a maximum word count of 7500 words (including references). Papers will be made available to all registered conference participants.
